Giving back to the Industry I am passionate about!

Having a passion for education, it’s exciting to continue educating the Woodworking Industry with Planit Australia. Over the last few months, Planit has been visiting Registered Training Organisations all around Australia where we have been discussing the development of the new training packages and content to address the industry shortage of Skilled Drafters. We will be working with these Registered Training Organisations to improve the availability of courses for training of CABINET VISION utilising my previous experience in the Education sector.

My journey started in the manufacturing industry in 1994, completing my apprenticeships in Shopfitting, kitchens and Detailed Joinery in 1999. Since then, I have been continuously worked in the Cabinetmaking and Joinery industry. Always interested in current and relevant industry experiences, enhancing my skills and trade qualifications through additional education and employment. I have worked across many facets of the industry from curved staircase construction, Shopfitting, Office furniture, kitchen design and manufacturing, wardrobes, vanities, installation, and Education.

For 17 years I worked as a teacher of Cabinetmaking and Joinery. Delivering up to date industry methodology and standards, safe work practices / WH&S standards and procedures. During this time, working alongside Planit Australia to introduce CABINET VISION and S2M software training and consultation on new innovations in software. This included teaching the latest in CNC technology and delivered instruction to students.

While using CABINET VISION the students would complete community projects requiring them to attend the client site and completing a site measure. They would then return to the college to draft the plans. The final design using S2M would be processed from flat panel material for manufacture and final installation. During this process, the students were required to research the materials and requirements for the job.

Currently, while working for Planit Australia, I travel to many countries as a WorldSkills International Skill Competition Manager for Joinery. WorldSkills is a Skills Competition in Excellence Nationally and Internationally for young adults. This role has allowed me to work with industry Experts from around Australia and over 30 countries in the running of the competitions and developing better skill practices also developing their Cabinetmaking and Joinery skills. This role requires me to work to the international occupational standards in the skill, including designing a project and marking scheme to suit. Working alongside industry leaders in technology and machinery providing a superior competition for all the competitors.

The Planit Australia Team have Certified Product Solution Experts offering customisedtraining for CABINET VISION users, they have Online Webinars and Tech Days will be back in 2024. As education is my passion, I will continue to work with all the Registered Training Organisations around Australia along with Planit Australia to increase and support CABINET VISION users in the industry.
